History

Established in 1955, Community Health Services was an early leader in heart disease prevention, and work-site wellness. Within its first two years, services were broadened, promoting a holistic concept of personal, family and community health and wellness.

Over the years, Community Health Services expanded and began providing additional preventive health services.

Numerous and widely recognized disease-specific agencies began as affiliate organizations under Community Health Services and have since become separate nonprofit organizations. Some of these include the Alzheimer’s Association, Arthritis Patient Services, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Association, Epilepsy Association of North Carolina, Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, Kidney Foundation, Lupus Foundation and Parkinson Association of Mecklenburg County.

Celebrating 50 years, Community Health Services remains a leading organization dedicated to providing preventative health services for children, adults and families in Mecklenburg County.

Paying tribute to its founder, Maribelle Connerat, Community Health Services recently dedicated its main clinic in the Children and Family Services Center to the late Mrs. Connerat.  Mrs. Connerat’s vision of providing testing, counseling, training, prevention and education as the tools to prevent disease and promote good health practices continues to be our vision.

Today, CHS serves more than 25,000  children and adults who are uninsured, underinsured or otherwise lacking access to affordable, timely and high quality preventive health care.

We are thankful for our generous donors that help Community Health Services continue to grow and provide support for those in need throughout our community.
